Eriksen Translations Makes Inc. 5000 List for Second Year in a Row
Brooklyn, NY – August 21, 2008 – Eriksen Translations Inc., a leading language services provider, has been named one of the 5,000 fastest growing companies in the U.S. by Inc. magazine for the second year in a row. The list is a comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy – America's independent-minded entrepreneurs. Taken as a whole, these companies represent the backbone of the U.S. economy. Nominations to the list are based on the rate of revenue growth over the last four years.

“This past year, we have both deepened our relationships with existing partners and worked with a wide array of new clients who demand the quality and customer service we deliver with every localization project,“ said Vigdis Eriksen, president and CEO of Eriksen Translations. “It is thrilling to be recognized by Inc. again, and a wonderful testament to our entire team's commitment to growth.“

While Eriksen has grown across the board, the largest increase has been in Web localization. With the linguistic and technical expertise to handle any file and the flexibility to meet the unique needs of every client, companies trust Eriksen with the localization of their new and existing websites and interactive applications.

“Our second annual Inc. 5000 continues the most ambitious project in business journalism," said Inc. 5000 Project Manager Jim Melloan. "The Inc. 5000 gives an unrivalled portrait of young, underreported companies across all industries doing fascinating things with cutting-edge business models, as well as older companies that are still showing impressive growth."

Eriksen Receives Award in Women Presidents' Educational Organization Challenge
Brooklyn, NY – June 19, 2008 – Eriksen Translations received the Access NYC Award at the Women Presidents’ Educational Organization’s (WPEO) Breakthrough Breakfast at The Pierre Hotel on June 6th. The award is an acknowledgement of the volume and range of language services Eriksen provides to the City of New York as gauged by the Third Annual Done Deals™ Challenge. The competition measures the number of contracts reported in the last year between a certified woman’s business enterprise (WBE) and WPEO corporate sponsors, City and State agencies, or other certified WBEs. This is the third year Eriksen has been recognized in this Challenge.

“We are grateful to be acknowledged by the WPEO for the work we do. New York City offers an astounding array of services for its citizens and we are proud to help City agencies communicate with the many multilingual communities that prosper here,” said Vigdis Eriksen, president and CEO of Eriksen. “While City agencies are only a portion of our client pool, the breadth of subject matter expertise and services we provide, from subway ads, websites, and forms for health programs to parent guides and letters for City schools, is a welcome challenge that reminds us of how exciting translation and localization can be.”

Of the over 3,500 Done Deals™ reported in the New York area competition this year, Eriksen submitted over 1,200 completed transactions with clients such as the City of New York, Fortune 100 companies, and other WBEs, including major organizations in the financial, insurance, and pharmaceuticals sectors. The range of services Eriksen provides these clients includes translation, editing, typesetting, Web localization, and copywriting.

"We are proud that in 2008, the WPEO family has doubled the number of Done Deals reported within the specified timeframe. This unprecedented increase is yet additional validation that the WPEO programs readily work and that Fortune 1000 companies are opening their doors to more and more women-owned companies," said Marsha Firestone Ph.D., president and founder of the WPEO.

Eriksen Sponsors Acclaimed Theater Company's Newest Production (January 31, 2008)
Eriksen Translations Sponsors Acclaimed Theater Company's Newest Production
Brooklyn, NY – January 30, 2008 – Eriksen Translations is a proud sponsor of Wakka Wakka Productions’s Fabrik: The Legend of M. Rabinowitz. Hailed as a “powerfully affecting production that capitalizes on the range of the art form and takes it to impressive heights” by The New York Times, the show will be running through Sunday, February 17 at Urban Stages Theatre, 259 West 30th Street in New York City.

Eriksen provided translations from Norwegian into English of the copious source material, including articles and a book written by Rabinowitz, as well as correspondence that he conducted with readers of his newspaper columns. The theater artists used the translations to create the play, which is a co-production of The Nordland Visual Theater and Wakka Wakka Productions.

“It is a personal passion of mine and a commitment that our company has made to support our community, promote cultural events, and encourage creative expression,” said Vigdis Eriksen, president & CEO of Eriksen Translations. “And Moritz Rabinowitz was a truly inspiring entrepreneur. Not only was he fearlessly principled and politically active, he also knew how to run a great business!”

Based on true facts, Fabrik tells the story of an industrious and outspoken Jewish clothing manufacturer in Haugesund, Norway. His political treatises railing against European anti-semitism and later the Nazis' extermination of the Jews led to his being targeted and eventually captured when the Germans invaded.

Though the story is tragic, the internationally-acclaimed Wakka Wakka has created a magical and entertaining show featuring original puppets by company member Kiran Waage and a score by Lars Petter Hagen. Backstage magazine calls the piece “a must-see feat of theatricality” and ended its review saying, “Terrific use of stick puppets adds an additional layer of fun to this dark piece, and the same can be said of the show’s clever songs, which both chill and amuse.”

Additional sponsorship was provided by The Six Points Fellowship for Emerging Jewish Artists, The Jim Henson Foundation, The Norwegian Arts Council, The Royal Norwegian Consulate General, and Puppeteers of America. Tickets are available at www.wakkawakka.org.

Eriksen Launches Multilingual Website with New Domain and Functionality
November 15, 2007 – Brooklyn, NY – Eriksen Translations Inc., a leading language services provider, has launched its new multilingual website, www.eriksen.com, with a fresh look and a host of exciting features.

Developed using the widely-recognized LifeRay Portal content management  system, eriksen.com is available in four languages, Spanish, Traditional Chinese, Swedish, and English, with plans to include other languages in the future. As an open source application, Eriksen’s developers were able to create custom applets for LifeRay that were tailored specifically to the needs of Eriksen’s users. The site includes permission-based features such as a Java-scripted cross-platform file transfer application that will allow clients and vendors to transfer files easily from any computer, regardless of firewalls or operating systems.

“While we’ve been localizing websites for many years, being our own Web localization client has been very educational and we look forward to sharing our first-hand experiences with our clients,” said Vigdis Eriksen, president and CEO of Eriksen Translations. “Participating in every aspect of the development process, using our own marketing linguists and localization expertise, has confirmed what we always tell our clients – having the localization team as part of the initial strategy is essential, and the devil is always in the details. Localization and internationalization has to be considered in every aspect of site development, from static editorial content to dynamic form applications.“

The new site includes an interactive vendor registration area that allows users to update administrative information. Integrated with our proprietary project management tool, PMT, the interactive forms streamline communications to facilitate efficient workflow.

Along with the new features, www.eriksen.com still includes the company’s popular multilingual ecards and in-depth profiles of the company’s staff, as well as details about Eriksen’s wide variety of multilingual solutions.

Vigdis Eriksen Joins NYC Mayor Bloomberg and Commissioner of Small Business Services to Announce Major New Initiative (February 7, 2006)
VIGDIS ERIKSEN JOINS NYC MAYOR BLOOMBERG AND COMMISSIONER OF SMALL BUSINESS SERVICES TO ANNOUNCE MAJOR NEW INITIATIVE
February 7, 2006 - Brooklyn, NY - Eriksen Translations President and CEO Vigdis Eriksen joined New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the Department of Small Business Services Commissioner Robert Walsh, and a small group of business leaders in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday morning to announce the first steps to dramatically expand the online capacity of NYC Business Solutions, the City's comprehensive business assistance program. The cornerstone of the expansion will be "Business Express," a Web site currently under development that will allow small business owners to set up personal accounts and get the help they need to start and grow their businesses, access incentives, as well as secure necessary permits and licenses from multiple agencies at the same time.

"Eriksen Translations' collaboration with the Department of Small Business Services is a prime example of the kind of relationships we want to foster with businesses throughout the city," explained Commissioner Walsh. Having worked together with the Department of Small Business Services and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, Eriksen was awarded a Building Skills in New York State training grant for $41,291 last November. Eriksen employees are currently participating in training that will keep the company on the forefront of evolving technologies and business practices.

With Ms. Eriksen at his side, the Mayor stated, "Since day one, we have worked tirelessly to make the City of New York the most business-friendly city in the nation. The City's Department of Small Business Services has become the premier point of contact for small businesses and entrepreneurs looking for help." Along with the "Business Express" Web site, the Department plans to establish 17 new NYC Business Solution Centers, and launch a new real estate selector tool as the City's only no-cost Web site where businesses can find a comprehensive inventory of available industrial and retail spaces in all five boroughs.

Though Eriksen has worked with several city agencies for many years, and continues to develop relationships with offices and organizations at all levels of government, this type of collaboration sets a new standard for Eriksen's community involvement. "As a language services provider, I have always been committed to bridging cultural gaps around me, but it's an honor to benefit from the same kind of thinking on the business level. I'm very proud to help the Mayor and the City of New York promote this wonderful resource," said Ms. Eriksen.

Brooklyn, NY - November 15, 2005 - Eriksen Translations is pleased to announce that the company has been awarded a Building Skills in New York State (BUSINYS) grant of $41,291. The grant allows Eriksen employees to receive training that will keep the company on the forefront of evolving technologies and business practices. The BUSINYS grants, administered by the New York State Department of Labor, are intended to enable companies to help their employees stay competitive in the global economy.

"As the only language services provider and one of only two companies in Brooklyn to receive a grant, we are excited about the growth opportunity this presents for our staff and the firm as a whole," said Vigdis Eriksen, President and CEO of the company. The training, which began this week, will include workshops with TRADOS, the software most commonly used by translators and project managers. With these workshops, Eriksen's team will learn about the newest features from the software company itself.

According to New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Linda Angello, "The rapid growth of international trade and communication makes the need for translation and localization services greater than ever. By awarding a BUSINYS grant to Eriksen Translations, New York State is supporting the development of this important, emerging business."

Eriksen has a history of investing in its staff, and the BUSINYS grant is making it possible to take ongoing development to a new level. Along with TRADOS training, the company's staff will receive instruction in advanced Microsoft Office software, Web applications, and sales and marketing tools. "Throughout their active expansion, Eriksen has done a great job of utilizing resources available through the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, so we knew they would make the most of a grant from the State," offered Kenneth Adams, president of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, a partner in promoting the BUSINYS grants.

ERIKSEN TRANSLATIONS AWARDED THREE-YEAR CONTRACT WITH NEW YORK CITY HEALTH AND HOSPITALS CORPORATION
Brooklyn, NY - September 20, 2005 - Eriksen Translations has been awarded a contract to provide translation services to all New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation's (HHC) hospitals and health care facilities throughout New York City. As the largest municipal health care system in the United States, HHC regularly offers health care related print materials to its customers in up to 13 languages. Eriksen has provided services to many HHC facilities in Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, Haitian-Creole, Hindi, Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Urdu, and Yiddish since 1998, but this new three-year agreement makes it possible for all HHC members to call on Eriksen at any time.

In the communities that HHC serves, census data has shown that almost one half of the population may speak a primary language that is not English. In keeping with a 2000 Executive Order, Improving Access to Services for People with Limited English Proficiency, HHC is committed to improving access to health care services by reducing communication barriers resulting from language differences. Eriksen provides the link by translating vital documents such as patient education materials, legal and administrative documents, multilingual brochures, and signage, among others.

"Eriksen's extensive experience in the health care field makes it possible for all of HHC's patients and consumers to make educated decisions about their health care," said Vigdis Eriksen, President and CEO of Eriksen Translations. "And our nearly 20 year history of offering both translation and interpreting services within the many communities of New York City makes us perfectly suited to assist every branch of the HHC network," she added.

ERIKSEN TRANSLATES NEW YORK’S OLYMPIC DREAM INTO 11 LANGUAGES
Brooklyn, New York - May 18, 2005 - Eriksen Translations has provided pro-bono translation services to NYC2012, the committee leading New York's bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012, and its local outreach group, the Nations of New York. Eriksen Translations Featured in Thomas Friedman’s The World Is Flat (May 10, 2005)
ERIKSEN TRANSLATIONS FEATURED IN THOMAS FRIEDMAN’S THE WORLD IS FLAT
Brooklyn, New York - May 10, 2005 - Eriksen Translations and its use of the immensely popular Skype VoIP technology is featured in Thomas L. Friedman's best-selling book The World Is Flat. Friedman is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and the foreign affairs columnist for the The New York Times. His book is currently #1 on the The New York Times Best Sellers List for Hardcover Non-Fiction.

Picked up from a November 1, 2004 Business Week article, Friedman uses Eriksen's implementation and evangelization of Skype as the chief case study regarding VoIP technology. Business Week and, subsequently, The World Is Flat chronicles Eriksen's use of Skype to connect with its 5,000 freelance linguists around the world: "When business development manager Claudia Waitman heard about a new company called Skype Technologies that offers free voice calls over the Internet to other Skype users anywhere in the world, she jumped. Six months after signing up, Eriksen's phone costs have already fallen 10 percent. Even better, its employees and freelancers confer more often, allowing them to work faster and more efficiently." 'It has changed the whole way we work,' Waitman says."

In the book, Friedman discusses how the lowering of trade and economic barriers and the revolution of the digital age has created a "level playing field" (thus "flat") for once developing countries like India and China. The book emphasizes not only the excitement of these events, but also acts as a call to Western nations like the United States to pay attention and respond to these new developments in an increasingly competitive and global economy.

Eriksen Translations discovered that it was featured in The World Is Flat  when prospective clients began calling after reading the book.

"Thomas Friedman's message is not lost on Eriksen Translations. Globalization is at the core of what we do and our ability to compete and remain viable in an increasingly smaller and more competitive world is crucial," said Vigdis Eriksen, President & CEO of Eriksen Translations. "By staying abreast of the most current technological trends, we are able to work across time zones and deliver the most relevant and specialized language solutions to our clients around the globe."

Brooklyn, New York - May 11, 2004 - Eriksen Translations Inc. is a Platinum Sponsor of "Global Security: Implications for Translation and Interpretation," a conference to be held from June 3 - 5, 2004 at New York University. The New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies' Center for Foreign Languages and Translation, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of its Translation Studies Program, will gather academics, practicing language professionals, and a wide range of language services consumers from around the globe to explore the issues confronting our world today.

Global developments, technological advances, and the critical realities of the last decade have transformed and broadened the scope of language professions. Although these transformations have produced a wide range of opportunities for practitioners, new challenges and obstacles exist that must be confronted in a security-sensitive, post-9/11 world, including: war, peace and security; foreign policy and counter-terrorism; the environment; the Internet; business, finance, global trade and money-laundering; public health; religion; and human rights.

The conference will investigate how the speed and scope of change in global affairs, business and communications have greatly affected the practice of translation and interpreting. Professions which had once served primarily local markets are now truly global, and translators can work anywhere at any time.

"The main goal of this event is to facilitate exchange. In this era of political instability, heightened security and ever-changing economic markets, we at Eriksen want to encourage the translation industry to seek out the latest developments, information, and techniques crucial to doing business in the 21st century," said Vigdis Eriksen, President of Eriksen Translations.
